North police board member's car torched

A car belonging to a member of the Armagh District Policing Partnership was torched last night.

A car belonging to a member of the Armagh District Policing Partnership was torched last night.

The vehicle was destroyed after being set alight outside the woman's house in the Wayside area of Tandragee. Police were called to the scene of the arson attack after 2.30 a.m.

Ulster Unionist Party councillor Mr Jim Steers, the chairman of Armagh DPP, condemned the incident.

"The DPP members are people who are community minded and have given their time, energy and effort on behalf of the entire community," he said.

"This is a frightening incident."

Several members of district policing partnerships, which liaise with police commanders on local law and order issues, have been targeted over the past year or threatened by republicans.

In most cases, hard-line dissident republicans have been blamed. Police today appealed to anyone who saw anything suspicious in Tandragee to help with their investigation.
