Jonathan Edwards' reign as world champion will continue for two more days at least as he qualified for the triple jump final in Paris.
The 37-year-old, who will retire after the World Championships, looks to have overcome the ankle injury which put his place in doubt.
Edwards produced a second-round effort in qualifying at the Stade de France this morning of 16.95metres - just one centimetre below the standard required.
But Edwards clearly thought that would be enough to earn a place among the top 12 for Monday's final as he left the in-field without bothering with his third jump.
Edwards, who opened with an effort of 16.30m, had been concerned that the ankle ligament he sprained at Crystal Palace two weeks ago would stand up to the rigours of the event.
But Edwards faces a daunting task to bow out with a victory in Paris with Sweden's gold medal favourite Christian Ollson soaring into the final with a first round effort of 17.56m.
