Johannesburg - Nine people, including four children, were gunned down in their sleep in the violence-torn South African town of Richmond in what police said yesterday was probably another politically motivated attack.

The latest slaughter brought to 43 the number of people killed in the town and stoked fears of renewed political fighting in the troubled KwaZulu-Natal province ahead of the general election planned for May next year.
