The Nigerian government has strengthened security for officials and prominent citizens following the murder last week of justice minister Bola Ige.

Mr Ige, 71, was shot dead last Sunday at his home in Ibadan, southwest Nigeria, while his security aides were taking a break.

President Olusegun Obasanjo was quoted in a press report today as saying that "a VIP security audit" was under way.

"At any given time, there should be at least two armed security men with a minister," he said.
