UP TO 3,000 people are expected to take part in a fundraising walk for murdered Wexford woman Nicola Furlong (21) this August bank holiday Monday in Wexford town.
The Pink Walk the Walk event for the DCU student who was killed in Japan in May will begin at 2.30pm and involve a circle of the town, totalling less than 5km.
There will be a barbecue on Charlotte Street, which will be closed for the day, with live music from local musician Aaron Berry, who penned the song This Is Not Goodbye from words Nicola’s sister Andrea spoke in a moving tribute at her funeral in Curracloe in June, at the Centenary Stores bar. Other local musical acts will also perform.
All proceeds will go into an account which will pay the cost of travel and accommodation for Ms Furlong’s father Andrew, mother Angie and sister Andrea while they attend the trial for her murder in Japan.
Tickets to the event cost €10 and include a pink wrist band with “We Are Your Voice” written on it and entry into Charlotte Street for the party which is due to last until 9pm.
Donations can be made to the Nicola Furlong Memorial Account at Bank of Ireland in Wexford: account number 9738 2577; sort code 90-67-18.
* Last week a panel of judges in Tokyo ruled that American suspect Richard Hinds (19) is to be tried as an adult for Ms Furlong’s murder.
