A holidaymaker from Northern Ireland has been seriously injured after falling five storeys from a hotel in the Canaries

A holidaymaker from Northern Ireland has been seriously injured after falling five storeys from a hotel in the Canaries. The woman, believed to be from Belfast, fell from the balcony of her room in a hotel on Gran Canaria at noon on Sunday and was taken to a nearby hospital. Her fall, which was witnessed by dozens of Irish holidaymakers in the Playa del Ingles resort, was broken by a plastic roof on the ground floor of the hotel.

A man is due to appear in court in Gran Canaria today, according to the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
