Newcastle tonight confirmed striker Craig Bellamy has been found guilty of a serious breach of club discipline and will be punished.
The 22-year-old, who scored for Wales in their creditable 1-1 draw with Argentina last night, will face a stiff but undisclosed penalty after being cautioned by police for an incident of common assault on a 21-year-old woman.
Fellow stars Carl Cort and Wayne Quinn, who were present but not involved, have been ticked off by manager Bobby Robson for being out on the city's Quayside in the early hours of the morning.
Injured midfielder Kieron Dyer, who had earlier picked his colleagues up, has been cleared of any wrong-doing.
"Newcastle United Football Club has now completed its investigation into the incident which occurred on the Newcastle Quayside in the early hours of Tuesday, February 5th involving four of its players," said chairman Freddy Shepherd.
"The investigation has concluded that Craig Bellamy has committed a serious breach of the club's behavioural code and he will be the subject of internal disciplinary action.
"It is inappropriate to comment further upon the extent of the disciplinary action until this has been communicated to the player personally, and this cannot take place until he returns from international duty at the end of this week.
"In relation to Carl Cort and Wayne Quinn, these players were not directly involved in the incident. However, the manager has expressed to the players his extreme displeasure at the fact that they should be found to have been socialising on the Quayside in the early hours of the morning.
"The fourth player, Kieron Dyer, has been exonerated from any blame whatsoever."
