An average of 70 cases of parental child abduction to and from the State are recorded every year and a new charity has been established to offer help and advice to parents and families, Chris- tine Newman writes

Yesterday, the Irish Centre for Parentally Abducted Children (ICPAC) was launched in Dublin while in the UK its counterpart Reunite opened its Northern Ireland organisation.

Ms Mary Banotti MEP, who pioneered the foundation of the ICPAC, said the charity offered a telephone helpline (01 6620667) and information pack setting out steps to prevent abduction and what to do if it happened.
