A new body, the Irish Academy of Engineering, to advance the practice of engineering in Ireland has been formed. The academy is a sister organisation of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland (IEI), but will remain independent of it, according to a statement issued by the academy. The academy will limit membership to 100 and this will include current and past presidents of the IEI, the Institution of Civil Engineers of Ireland and of Cumann na nInnealtoiri. Chartered engineers included on the Roll of Honorary Fellows of the IEI will also be granted membership.
