Judgment has been reserved in the High Court in a case in which a woman is challenging a decision to discharge her from the Naval Service because she suffers from coeliac disease. Ms Maria Fitzgerald (20), Friar's Walk, Cork, told the court she was never made aware her career in service could be terminated or that she could not make representations to its medical review board.
However, an officer with the Defence Forces medical corps said it had been indicated to Ms Fitzgerald in 1999 that she might not be able to continue in service.
The hearing concluded yesterday and Mr Justice McKechnie reserved judgment.
