MALAWAI:The father of the Malawian baby boy Madonna is trying to adopt said the singer agreed to bring the toddler back to visit every three or four years.
Peasant farmer Yohane Banda, the biological father of 13-month-old David Banda, told ITV News that he was very happy with the adoption arrangement.
"We made an agreement in court . . . for David to lead a better life. I was happy with that," Mr Banda said. "Every three or four years they will bring him to visit. I'm delighted he's been welcomed into that family."
Madonna has been stung by criticism that she has bypassed Malawi law to "buy" a baby by offering $2 million (€1.6 million) to help orphans in the impoverished African nation. ButMr Banda said Madonna should not worry about the criticisms levelled against her.
"Where were these people [Madonna's critics] when David and I really needed help?" On Wednesday Madonna defended herself publicly for the first time, telling US chat show host Oprah Winfrey that she did not break the African country's adoption laws - because it has none.
