An unmarried couple whose daughter's birth was registered in her mother's name when they wanted the registration in the father's name yesterday secured a High Court order to that effect.
On the consent of Mr Giollaiosa O Lideadha, for the parents, and Mr Cormac Corrigan SC, for the Registrar General of Births, Mr Justice McCracken issued orders quashing the registration of the now one-year-old girl in her mother's name and directing a fresh registration entering her surname as that of her father.
Mr O Lideadha said the Registrar General had discretion to remedy the matter and had failed to do so despite requests from his clients' solicitors.
