A mother and daughter charged with trespassing with intent to steal at the home of Galway murder victim, Mr Tommy Casey, were remanded in custody yesterday after they appeared at Galway District Court.

Mrs Kathleen Connors (55), of Greenfields, Newcastle, Galway, and her daughter, Ms Alison Connors (21), of Killenaule, Co Tipperary, are both charged with entering Mr Casey's home at Oranbeg, Oranmore, on January 15th with intent to steal.

Defence solicitors for the two women, who are denying the charges, pointed out that they had been in custody for six weeks and wanted their cases dealt with expeditiously.

Insp Stiofain O Cualain told Judge John Garavan that gardai were still investigating the case and a full file on the matter had not yet been completed. He applied for an adjournment of one month.

The judge ordered that the women appear before him on April 1st.

No one has been charged with the murder of Mr Casey, whose badly beaten body was found in his home on January 23rd.
