Gardaí are investigating a so-called tiger kidnapping in Co Dublin last night during which a reported €1 million was taken by an armed gang.

During the night, at least five raiders entered a house in the Rathcoole area and threatened a husband, wife and one adult daughter in the house.

According to gardaí, the man was taken to his work premises in the Bluebell area of Dublin at 6am, while the wife and daughter remained captive in their home. It is believed a security company was the target of the raid.

A sum of money was handed over and a short time later the wife and daughter were released. No injuries were suffered. A Garda spokesman could not confirm how much money was taken but it has been reported that more than €1 million was stolen.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a Silver Renault Laguna car in the Rathcoole area at 8.30am or anyone with information to contact Naas Garda Station at 045-884300.
