Tehran - Iran has increased the number of young sturgeon it rears yearly for release into the Caspian, as it fights to offset a decline in the valuable caviar-producing fish due to poaching and oil pollution.

Since March, Iran has raised more than 24 million sturgeon fry, a jump of 15.3 per cent over the number raised during the same period last year, Iran's official IRNA news agency quoted the National Fishing Society as reporting.
