Montgomery and Jones appoint new coach

Tim Montgomery and Marion Jones have appointed Dan Pfaff as their new coach.

Tim Montgomery and Marion Jones have appointed Dan Pfaff as their new coach.

Montgomery, the 100 metres world record holder, has struggled this season after splitting with coach Trevor Graham early in the year. Montgomery and Jones then turned to Charlie Francis, the disgraced coach of doping cheat Ben Johnson, but dropped him after widespread criticism.

Jones, who gave birth to the couple's first child on June 28, will begin work with Pfaff in September but Montgomery will start immediately.

Pfaff, assistant coach at a Texas university for seven years, is moving to North Carolina to begin his stint with the duo. The 49-year-old has previously coached Donovan Bailey, who won the 100m gold medal in the 1996 Olympics.
