Four German tourists missing after their boat failed to return to harbour in Co Mayo turned up safe and well last night.

The group - two men and two teenagers - sparked a major air and sea search in Blacksod Bay.

The boat left Blacksod pier on the Erris Pensinsula at about 4 p.m. yesterday. A search operation got under way shortly after 9 p.m. when local people became concerned for the safety of the men.

The tourists were found safe when their 20-foot vessel washed ashore at Doohooma Point in north Mayo.
