Irish mining company Minco today said it has been issued a licence to extract the silver-rich tailings contained within La Laguna Zacatecana in Mexico.

This licence will be for a period of 20 years and entitles Minco to extract 6 million cubic meters of tailings from the lake.

The Laguna project is located east of the municipality of Guadalupe, Zacatecas State, and contains gold, silver and mercury tailings.

The company, recently reported a €115,181 loss for 2002. It plans to increase exploration activity next year, with the costs met by a recent €1.4 million fundraising.
