The chairman of the PDs has become embroiled in the row between the coalition partners over the National Stadium by accusing the Taoiseach of making "totally contradictory" remarks with regard to the Abbotstown development.
The PDs National Chairman, Mr John Minihan, said the Taoiseach was guilty of "double talk" and claimed that Mr Ahern was "the only person who wants to play all sports in the one stadium.
Yesterday the Taoiseach confirmed that the construction of Campus and Stadium Ireland at Abbotstown would be part of Fianna Fail’s general election manifesto despite the Tánaiste's opposition to the project.
Announcing her party’s general election manifesto on Sunday, the Tanaiste, Ms Harney, said she would not be prepared to compromise in any renewed negotiations with Fianna Fail over government, by allowing the 60,000-seater stadium to be built.
"With a price tag of almost €1 billion the Abbotstown project is not affordable for a country of this size," Mr Minihan said this afternoon.
"Nor would it be right to concentrate so much of our national sporting investment in a single location in the capital city," he added.
