Belgrade - Yugoslav President Mr Slobodan Milosevic has promised to halt a media crackdown and ensure fair treatment for rivals in campaigning for Serbian elections in September, Tanjug news agency said yesterday.

But several opposition parties declared they would go ahead with plans to boycott the poll. Voting in the presidential and parliamentary election was set for September 21st.
