LONDON – Lawyers acting for the killer of Milly Dowler say they are negotiating with the prison service over how much compensation he should receive for being attacked in jail.

The prison authorities have admitted full liability for the incident involving Levi Bellfield but a figure for compensation is yet to be agreed, Jeremy Moore of Carter Moore solicitors said yesterday.

Reports said that Bellfield was suing for £30,000.

According to the Daily Mirror, he is demanding compensation after suffering cuts following an attack outside a bathroom in HMP Wakefield.

The attack was reported to have taken place last year, before his trial for murdering 13-year-old Milly. He was jailed for life in June after being convicted of abducting and murdering the schoolgirl in March 2002. – (PA)
