Tbilisi - Georgia voted yesterday in a parliamentary election which President Eduard Shevardnadze said could become a milestone in the country's developing democracy.

But Mr Aslan Abashidze, the head of the Revival bloc set to become the main challenger to Mr Shevardnadze's ruling Citizens' Union party, accused the authorities of planning to rig the vote.
