For the first time the installation of a Methodist president took place in a Catholic church last night.

For the first time the installation of a Methodist president took place in a Catholic church last night.

The ceremony was at the Church of the Incarnation in Frankfield, Cork, where Rev Roy Cooper was installed as president of the Methodist Church in Ireland.

It was attended by Catholic Bishop of Cork and Ross Dr John Buckley, Church of Ireland Bishop of Down and Dromore Right Rev Harold Miller, and outgoing Presbyterian Moderator Rev Dr David Clarke.

The main thrust of the Rev Cooper's installation address was slavery.
