Methodist head is installed

The new President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, the Rev Dr Norman Taggart, was installed on Friday

The new President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, the Rev Dr Norman Taggart, was installed on Friday. Speaking at the church's annual conference in Derry at the weekend he said he was "first a Christian". "Second, I am a Methodist; third, I am an ecumenist" he said.

Dr Taggart was born in Belfast in October 1935. Educated at Queen's University, he has served in Belfast, India, Sligo, Antrim, London, Belfast again, Sri Lanka, and latterly in Coleraine. He is married to Margaret Adams, and they have two daughters and two sons.
