Two men who assaulted the Olympic boxer, Francie Barrett, and his father when he refused to take part in a bare-knuckle fight with the champion boxer of their clan, were each given suspended three-year sentences at Galway Circuit Court yesterday. Michael McDonagh (28), Clybawn Road, Galway, and his brother, Edward McDonagh (32), of Tuam Road Halting Site, Headford Road, Galway, pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Barrett and his father, Frank, at Glenanail, Galway, on August 12th, 1998.
