More than 250 people met in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan, last night to discuss the potential impact of any job losses at former Quinn Group companies.

Seán Quinn jnr, who was recently released from Mountjoy Prison, attended the meeting organised by Concerned Irish Citizens, the group behind the support rallies for the Quinn family in July and October. There were calls for a taskforce to be set up to safeguard jobs in the former Quinn companies.

Last month Liberty Mutual Insurance announced 285 redundancies.

One speaker said: “The differences between the Quinn family and Anglo should be set aside in order to restore jobs and to protect the community.”

A letter from the Quinn family was read out, thanking the organisers and local people for their support.
