The five Meath senior footballers involved in the fracas with Dublin in the National League last month have failed in their appeal bids as the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) upheld the bans.

The news comes as a blow for Meath manager Colm Coyle, who must plan for tomorrow's Leinster SFC quarter-final against Wexford at Dr Cullen Park without Brendan Murphy, Seamus Kenny, Nigel Crawford, Niall McKeigue and Shane McAnarney.

Initial suspensions were handed out to the quintet by the Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) before the players in question made their appeals to the Central Appeals Committee (CAC).

And last night the DRA upheld the CAC ruling at a meeting in Mullingar Park Hotel. The five players were in attendance in the hope of having their eight week bans overturned.
