London - The British government's emergency legislation to tackle soccer hooligans was passed by the House of Commons yesterday but still faces a big hurdle in the House of Lords.
The Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw, anxious to have the Football (Disorder) Bill passed into law before parliament breaks for its summer recess at the end of next week, made a number of concessions to opposition concerns.
The Commons passed the bill by 171 votes to 42 early yesterday after a heated debate.
