Champion jockey Tony McCoy breathed a sigh of relief this morning after being declared fit to ride in the Martell Grand National.

On arrival at Aintree he and weighing room colleague Mick Fitzgerald were both checked over by the racecourse doctor after missing rides yesterday due to the effects of falls.

And the official decided that the pair were both in good enough shape to take part in the world's most famous chase.

McCoy, who has yet to win the National, partners Blowing Wind in the big race while Fitzgerald bids to follow up his 1996 triumph on Rough Quest when he rides Marlborough.
