McAleese on State visit to Germany

President Mary McAleese begins a three-day official visit to Germany this afternoon.

President Mary McAleese begins a three-day official visit to Germany this afternoon.

Over the three days, President McAleese will visit Berlin, Munich, Wurzburg, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt.

During her stay she will meet numerous dignitaries including a meeting tomorrow with German President Horst Koehler. She will meet with Dr Norbert Lammert, President of the Bundestag at the Bundestag on Tuesday.

Later that afternoon, she will meet with the Chancellor of Germany, Ms Angela Merkel and on the final day of her visit will meet with Mr Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt.

Ms McAleese's itinery also includes a wreath-laying ceremony tomorrow at Berlin's Neue Wache memorial to the victims of war and tyranny.

She will also deliver at lecture at the Humboldt University and will visit representatives of the Irish community and a St Killian's Cathedral in Wurzburg.
