Mayo crash survivor in critical condition

The passenger in a light aircraft that crashed in Co Mayo, killing the pilot, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The plane crashed yesterday afternoon near Ireland West Airport Knock. It was en route to Weston airport in Dublin.

The pilot had radioed that he was in difficulties and was trying to return to Knock when he was forced to crash land at Cloonamna, Kilmovee.

The pilot was formally named by gardaí today as Markus Casey (51) from DrMannix Road, Salthill, Galway. 

The male passenger was seriously injured and was taken to Sligo General Hospital.

Air accident investigators are examining the aircraft today.
