The ISEQ hit new highs before closing 42 points higher at 6,335 today. Elan and financials led the upward charge in a buoyant market.

Bank of Ireland hit an all-time high of euro 12.06 before falling back to euro 11.70 - a daily gain of 20 cents. A bout of profit-taking knocked 49 cents off AIB share price which closed at 13.31.

More positive research updates from Elan lifted the share price euro 2.0 higher to 66.50 a gain of 3.6 per cent.

Ryanair also bounced higher after a strong buy recommendation from Davy stockbrokers which predicted a five-fold increase in the share price over the next decade.

But Horizon Technology was the day's biggest gainerafter announcing a £2.4 million deal with Lloyds TSB to support Lloyds online banking operation. Horizon shares rose 44 cents to euro 2.20, a gain of 26 per cent on the day.

Green Property came back a little today after strong recent gains after the firm's inclusion in the key MSCI index. The MSCI index is the leading benchmark used by international fund managers. Green fell back 11 cents to euro 7.40.
