Gardaí confirmed this evening that Co Louth man Michael Dermot McArdle has been extradited to Spain where he is wanted for the alleged murder of his wife.

A Garda spokeswoman said Mr McArdle (36) left the State last night at 7.30pm in the company of two Spanish policemen.

He is wanted by the Spanish authorities for the alleged murder of his wife, Kelly Anne (28), who died following a fall from a hotel balcony in Marbella on February 12th, 2000.

Ms McArdle died after falling 40 feet from the balcony of her fourth-floor room where she was staying with her husband and two children.

Last week Mr McArdle lost a Supreme Court appeal against his extradition warrant. The five-judge court unanimously upheld a High Court order of May 27th last directing that Michael Dermot McArdle of Brookfield, Heynestown, Dundalk, be extradited to Spain.
