The house and garden were yesterday sealed off while forensic officers examined the body, which had been discovered just inside the front garden wall.

The remains were later removed to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe where State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy carried out a postmortem late last night.

Local people said that Mr Cunningham had returned from England some years ago to care for his elderly parents.
