A 48-year-old man is to appear in court tomorrow morning to be charged over the fatal stabbing of a mother of three yesterday.
Jean Gilbert (46) of Laverna Dale, Carpenterstown, Dublin 15 was found seriously injured after gardai were called to her house yesterday morning. She later died of her injuries in James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown.
The 48-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards and taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station. Gardai said this evening he will remain in custody there overnight and will be taken to Dublin District court at 10.30am tomorrow to be charged.
A post mortem carried out last night by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy concluded that Ms Gilbert died as a result of a stab wound. It is believed she was stabbed a number of times in the back and upper body.
Ms Gilbert is the mother of three children, Emily (10), Alex (7) and Harvey (3). The two older children attend St Bridget's local national school in Castleknock.
It is understood the children were in the house when the incident occurred.
At midday yesterday social workers from the Health Service Executive arrived to help the children cope with their trauma. The arrested man, a 48-year-old Irishman, was injured in the incident at the house.
