A teenager was due to appear before the courts this morning in connection with the murder of Melanie McNamara (16) in Tallaght, west Dublin, in February.

The suspect was in Garda custody last night when the charges were formally put to him. He was due to appear before Tallaght District Court this morning.

Ms McCarthy was in a car with three men parked outside a house on Brookview Way, Tallaght, on night of February 7th last when a black SUV pulled alongside and one of the occupants opened fire, fatally wounding the teenager in the head.

Her friends drove her at speed to Tallaght hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.
