A man appeared in court at the weekend in connection with last week's attempted post office robbery at Lusk, Co Dublin, in which two men were shot dead.

Gavin Farrelly (28), Lower Sheriff Street, Dublin, appeared before Bridewell District Court on Saturday charged with possession of a firearm and intent to commit a robbery.

The court heard that he had been charged the previous evening in Blanchardstown Garda station. Judge Michael O'Leary refused bail and remanded Mr Farrelly in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday.

Two other men and a woman arrested following the foiled raid were released on Friday night without charge.

Two Dublin men Colm Griffin (33) and Eric Hopkins (24) were shot dead by armed gardaí at the scene.
