A 29-year-old man arrested in connection with an arson attack on an Alliance Party office has been released.

He was detained earlier today by detectives investigating the fire at MLA Stewart Dickson's premises in Carrickfergus.

A spokeswoman for the PSNI said the man had been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Offices belonging to the East Antrim representative were burned during loyalist rioting on Wednesday.

Up to 1,500 people took to their streets to vent their anger at a decision to limit the flying of the Union flag over Belfast City Hall.

A number of other elected representatives from the cross- community Alliance Party have also been targeted, including East Belfast MP Naomi Long who has received death threats.
