A man in his 50s died early this morning just outside Tuam after he was struck by a car.
The incident happened at about 4.30 am.on the Galway side of the town.
The man, who has yet to be named, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem will take place
A section of the N17 was closed for a time while a forensic examination took place.
Gardai in Tuam are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
