A Dublin man caught by gardai raping a woman has been jailed for seven years by Mr Justice Carney at the Central Criminal Court.

A taxi driver whom the victim had tried to flag down and a man going to bed near the scene who heard her screams for help both called the gardai.

The court heard the victim became a heroin addict as a result of her ordeal and had twice overdosed on the heroin substitute methadone. Dominic Moore (25) of Fairlawn Road, Finglas, pleaded guilty to anal and oral rape of the woman and also to aggravated sexual assault on June 16th, 1997, near the junction of Ballygall Road and Griffith Avenue, Dublin. Mr Justice Carney noted Moore's victim was in fear of death and was so unable to cope with the effects of his "extremely violent actions" that she became a heroin addict.
