Man injured in Co Down hit-and-urn incident

A man suffered spinal injuries when he was the victim of a hit-and-run incident in Co Down today.

A man suffered spinal injuries when he was the victim of a hit-and-run incident in Co Down today.

He is believed to have been struck by a van which mounted the footpath at Abbey Yard in Newry and then sped off, said a Police Service spokesman.

The man, in his 30s, was detained in hospital with both spinal and leg injuries.

Police investigating the incident were understood to be trying to establish whether the van deliberately drove at the victim.

The blue van, drove in a southbound direction along Bridge Street towards the Dublin Road after the accident.

Police appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them .
