A man is in a very critical condition in hospital following a stabbing Cork city last night.

A man is in a very critical condition in hospital following a stabbing Cork city last night.

The 20-year-old man had emergency surgery after he was stabbed in the chest following a row outside a house at Mt Saint Joseph's Heights in Cork city shortly after midnight.

He was removed to Cork University Hospital where his condition is described as "very critical".

Meanwhile, Gardaí in Mallow are investigating an assault in the St Joseph's area of the town at around 3.30am yesterday.

Units of the gardai and ambulance attended the scene and a man in his 20's was removed to Cork University Hospital suffering a minor stab wound.

His condition is described as stable.
