The man was found at 10.30 p.m. last night in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs in his house in the Bunting Road area with serious head injuries.

He was taken to St. James's Hospital, where he is in a critical condition.

Meanwhile gardaí were also questioning four men in their late teens and early twenties about the stabbing of a man on Hartstown Road in Clonsilla earlier this morning.

The injured man was removed to hospital shortly after 3.45 a.m., where his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
