A 38-year-old man has appeared before magistrates in Belfast today accused of a city centre murder.

A 38-year-old man has appeared before magistrates in Belfast today accused of a city centre murder.

A man appeared in court in Belfast today charged with murdering a 56-year-old man in the city last weekend.

Mark John Rush, 38, of no fixed abode, was remanded in custody until October 6 charged with murdering Robert Hillen.

Mr Hillen, also of no fixed abode, died in hospital on Wednesday from injuries he received in a city centre fight last Saturday evening.

He was taken to hospital after being injured opposite the Ulster Hall in Bedford Street.

During a brief two minute hearing before resident magistrate Ken Nixon Mr Rush spoke only once to confirm he understood the charge.

In answer to a defence solicitor, a detective sergeant confirmed it was accurate to say there were no significant or serious visible external injuries to the victim after last Saturday's incident.
