A young man remains in hospital in Cork city today following a serious assault earlier this week.

A young man remains in hospital in Cork city today following a serious assault earlier this week.

The incident happened at between 11pm and 12pm on Tuesday night close to the Greenmount School on Green Street, just off Barrow Street.

The 21-year-old man sustained serious facial injuries in the assault which required major surgery.

Anyone who was in the Green Street area of the city on Tuesday evening and who may have witnessed the altercation are asked to contact the Anglesea Street Garda station on 021-4522000.
