Police are today continuing to question a man about the death of a childminder at a Georgian mansion in Co Antrim.

The man, a civil servant who works for the Police Service of Northern Ireland, was arrested yesterday by detectives.

Mother-of-two Ms Catrina Baird (40) was gunned down in the courtyard of the house in the village of Broughshane, near Ballymena.

Mrs Baird worked for wealthy businessman Mr Ken Dickson and his wife who have two young children.

Former Stormont Finance Minister Mr Sean Farren said people in the Broughshane area were in a state of deep shock following the murder.

"This is a dreadful incident and people in the area will be deeply shocked and concerned," the North Antrim MLA said. "Broughshane is a very quiet area which makes this incident all the more shocking".
