A British man has been arrested after storming the cockpit on a flight from South Africa.

A spokesperson for South African Airways (SAA) said the 35-year-old man had tried to shoulder-barge the cockpit door of a Boeing 747 six hours into the flight from Cape Town to London.

"Passengers and crew overpowered him. A doctor examined him and reported that he was on habit-forming narcotics and had suffered panic attacks or withdrawal symptoms," he said.

The man was handcuffed and was handed over to British police on arrival at Heathrow early this morning.
