A man was arrested under Britain's Terrorism Act after a terminal at London's Heathrow airport was evacuated today because of a suspicious bag, police said.

Passengers were allowed back into the Terminal 2 late this afternoon after the baggage was cleared by specialist officers. "A man has been arrested in connection with this incident," a police spokeswoman said.

Earlier airport personnel said a man was seen running in and dropping a bag at the check-in area. Passengers were being kept about 300 yards (metres) away from the terminal, a witness said.

A spokeswoman for the British Airports Authority which runs Heathrow Airport said investigations were under way into the incident and they expected some disruption to flights because of the evacuation to the terminal.
