A Ballymun man has been given a two-year suspended sentence for his role in an attack on a sleeping man who later died from his injuries. Patrick Broderick (32), married with a family, of Sillogue Road, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to public disorder at Parlickstown Green, Mulhuddart on January 15th, 1998.

Judge Dominic Lynch was told Broderick drove three other men to a house in Mulhuddart and an innocent man sleeping alone there died later from serious injuries after being assaulted. Broderick denied he knew anyone was to be attacked. The victim, Mr John Murray of North Road, Finglas, was staying at the house in Mulhuddart by invitation of the resident who was downstairs with a woman.

Stephen Doyle (24), of Balcurris Road, Ballymun, is serving a life sentence after a jury found him guilty last February of murdering Mr Murray by kicking him many times around the head.

The Central Criminal Court heard Doyle expected to find another person he alleged had sexually molested his daughter in the house. He had a fixation about this matter.
