A man was found dead in a cell in Kilkenny Garda Station this morning.

A man was found dead in a cell in Kilkenny Garda Station this morning.

The 66-year-old man had been arrested in the city just before midnight for a public order offence.

He was found dead in his cell at around 5.30 a.m., following a routine check.

Initial results from a post mortem carried out on the man at Waterford Regional Hospital by  the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, show that he died of natural causes.

The dead man is survived by his wife and six children.
